Courage in Politics/Election Envy? What’s up with this?

Theft of campaign signs in Christiansburg:

Anyone seen this sign? 20100420101440(2)It was stolen from 114 late on the 20th or early on the 21st of April. It is a crime to steal campaign signs. If you have any information, please contact the Christiansburg Police Department and give me a call at 382-6431. It is by having contested races for elected office that people (voters) have a choice. The place to have YOUR say is in the voting booth, not out stealing 4X4 sheets of plywood that have been hand painted by a candidate. If you are the one who stole this, you might want to consider putting it back. (Also putting back the approximately 20 small signs would be a nice thing to do.)

This type of behavior should not be condoned by anyone.  I ask that all candidates put forth requests to their supporters that anyone who has knowledge of this theft report it. Or, at least, that all candidates have word go out requesting the perpetrators return the sign…undamaged. Since there are only two candidates for the position of Mayor, this does not look good for Meghan Dorsett’s opponent.

Playing games of intimidation, threatening people, stealing campaign signs, etc. are not the behaviors that I would have hoped to see by candidates or their supporters. It makes it look like people do not have confidence in their ability to win an election without using ‘fear’ as their primary agenda. Threats of lawsuits, threats of violence, threats of business loss, personal attacks, and smear campaigns are simply ways to divert voter’s attention.

Divert attention from what? These Town elections are about the Town, the citizens of Christiansburg, and dealing with the issues of today and planning for those of tomorrow. Town elections are NOT about egos, secrets, keeping things hidden, or grasping desperately to hold on to whatever level of control and individual can have. Elected officials are in office to serve citizens. They are expected to be honest, open, and to respect and uphold the law.

If you are a registered voter in the Town of Christiansburg, this is YOUR election. It is your right to vote for the person you feel will best serve you. Don’t forget to vote on May 4th at the Armory.

  1. Connie Reed says:

The person(s) that are removing your election signs are basically “bullying you” !

Guess we have some adult bullies- they must be worried about you then. This happening in Christiansburg is not the image we want the world to see, and quite frankly, it is disgusting.
