Promises made. Promises fulfilled? Christiansburg Comprehensive Plan Saga.

There is another new page in the Christiansburg Issues collection found at: (.pdf versions of all of these are availalbe at: http://myvaresources.com/Special/DepotDazedPages.html. This one deals specifically with the Goals, Objectives, and Strategies Section of the Comprehensive Plan. To effectively use it, simply scroll down the list and look at promises made in 2003, renewed in 2008, and then look around to see which of those promises have been fulfilled and which have not.

The Comprehensive Plan serves as a plan for how you, the citizens, want your town to grow and what you want it to be like in the future. There is one particular quote (see below) that acknowledges the role the Town government is willing to allow citizens and the zoning ordinance to influence that growth. I guess my question is simply how well has this policy been adhered to since 2003. Take a look and let me know what you think. In doing so, I only request that you cite the neighborhood where you have seen these things happening. My camera and I are having a very hard time finding positive examples for a photo gallery I am working on. Thanks!

From Christiansburg Comprehensive Plan:

  1. (P.143) The extent to which zoning can improve living conditions and guide the growth of Christiansburg in accordance with the Comprehensive Plan will be largely dependent upon the attitudes and interests of the people of Christiansburg as expressed by them and expressed through their leaders in enactment of regulations and subsequent sustained enforcement of regulations. The problems will be varied since Christiansburg is an urbanizing community with the potential for different kinds of  development. If the people of Christiansburg truly desire an orderly, efficient land use development pattern which is an objective of the Comprehensive Plan; and if they wish to channel development to designated areas, and protect the water resources and environmentally sensitive areas, then zoning is available to implement a program which, over the long run, can accomplish these objectives.
